New opening hours at the Intercultural Centre in Laugavegur 37
From February 15th the opening hours at the Intercultural Centre on Laugarvegur wil be the following:
Mondays to Wednesdays from 10-17.
Thursdays from 10-18.
Fridays from 10-15.
Did you not get any child allowances on February 1st?
If you were expecting child allowances February 1st and did not get any it might be because your marital status is listed as uncertain (listed as 9) in the National Registry. That means that you have to go there and either show your marriage licence, if your married, or then a certificate from your home country stating that you‘re a single parent (not married).
Information meeting for new volunteer project
· Are you a good instructor?
· Do you want to contribute to society?
· Do you want to meet new people?
Heilahristingur, a new home work assistance project for immigrant students in grade 8.- 10. will start on February 10th. The project‘s goal is to offer students an exciting space to do their homework and give them and chance to get assistance with their homework once a week with the help of volunteers. Heilahristingur will be on Tuesdays in the City Library in Gerðuberg Breiðholt from 15.15-16.45.
An information meeting for volunteers and those interested in the project will be held in the City Library in Gerðuberg Monday Ferbruary 9th at 17.30.
Icelandic language courses at the Intercultural Centre
Icelandic language courses will be held in Alþjóðahús, Laugavegur 37, 101 Reykjavík and Alþjóðahús, Gerðuberg, 111 Reykjavík

Open house tomorrow night
This Friday’s open house will be a version of the Icelandic Þorrablót. Guests will get a chance to eat the traditional Icelandic Þorra food. It starts at 20.00 and is in the basement of the Intercultural Centre on Laugavegur 37 (entrance from side alley).
Chinese Spring Festival on Sunday
The Northern Light Confucius Institute at the University of Iceland and the Embassy of China invite you to attend a Chinese Spring Festival Celebration on 8 February, 13:00-16:30, in and nearby Hátíðasalur in the Main Building at the University of Iceland. The occasion is the arrival of the new Chinese year – Year of the Ox – on 26 January. In the People‘s Republic, the New Year Celebration is also called Spring Festival.
Visitors have the opportunity to engage with Chinese culture in various ways. Among performances will be dragon dance, Chinese martial arts (gongfu), Chinese movies and Chinese songs and music. An introduction to the ancient practices of Chinese medicine and Chinese tea-ceremony will also be offered.
Visitors will also be able to acquaint themselves with Chinese cuisine, and to participate in many traditional games as well as a lottery. It is adviceable to attend early as food and prizes are of a limited quantity.
Entry is free of charge for everyone.
