Yule Lads Welcome Visitors to Christmas Forest

The Icelandic Forestry Association welcomes visitors to the Christmas tree forest in Brynjuldalur valley in Hvalfjördur, west Iceland, about an hour’s drive from Reykjavík, every weekend before Christmas. Chirpy Yule Lads assist people finding the perfect tree.

It is recommended that people arrive in groups in SUVs or other vehicles suitable for driving in rough winter conditions. Upon arrival people gather in a clearing in the woods where they are instructed on how to choose trees, wrap them, etc.

The whole forest is open and each family is free to choose the tree they can picture in their living room, as stated on the Forestry Association’s website.

People can choose between a few types of trees, mostly lodgepole pines, sitka spruces and Norway spruces, but they might also find a few Engelmann spruces and Rocky Mountain fir.

The Forestry Association’s Christmas tree sale is in support of forestry in Iceland; for every tree sold, 30-40 new ones are planted.
