Custody over Attacker Confirmed, Victim Out of ICU

The Supreme Court of Iceland has confirmed Reykjavík District Court’s custody sentence over a man who has confessed to having attacked his father in his home in central Reykjavík on November 14.

The victim is out of the ICU and no longer on life support but his condition is still severe. His son will be in custody until December 27, Morgunbladid reports.

While being interrogated by the police, he confessed to having been angry with his father at the point when he went to his house.

After having exchanged a few words with his father he lost his temper, kicked him in the stomach and hit him in the head with brass knuckles, which he carried with him. He then kicked his head and jumped on it repeatedly.

According to the police chief’s estimate, the crime is so severe that it is necessary to keep the alleged perpetrator in custody in spite of his confession.

It is unjustifiable that he is allowed to walk when there is such a strong suspicion that he committed such a serious crime, the police chief argued.

If convicted, he might face imprisonment of 16 years or even a life sentence.
