Volunteers needed for “Heilahristingur”, homework assistance project for high school students
This February a new homework assistance project will start in Breiðholt. The goal is to create an exciting space for students to do their homework once a week with the assistance of volunteers. The project will take place once a week in the City Library in Gerðuberg on Tuesdays from 15.15-16.45.
Volunteers are needed that are at least 20 years old and have finished college. Their role will be to connect with the students, assist with their homework and explain terms and concepts. A weekly commitment will be around two hours.
If you are interested please contact Þór Gíslason, project manager for the Reykjavík branch of the Icelandic Red Cross at 545 0406 or thorgisla@redcross.is.
The project is a collaboration project between the Intercultural Centre, the City Library and the Reykjavík branch of the Icelandic Red Cross.
Japanese language courses soon to start
Are you interested in Japanese literature, anime, manga comics, martial arts or something else connected to Japan? Why not learn Japanese then? In February the Lingva Language School on Laugavegur 170 will offer a four week beginners course in Japanese. The course will be taught in the evenings, twice a week.
This is a concise course with a focus on spoken language and basic understanding of the language. Students will also be shortly introduced to the written language, but Japanese has three different fonts. Íris Lilja Ragnarsdóttir will teach the course and she has a degree in Japanese studies from the University of Copenhagen. She also studied Japanese at the Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto, Japan. For more information see www.lingva.is
