Competency Exam

The competency exam will now be offered for the autumn term. The tests are held 9 December. To register for the test or to recieve more information see www.mh.is. The competency exam is offered in Danish, Italian, English, Norwiegian, Swedish, French, German, Dutch, Serbian, Lithuanian, Japanese, Albanian, Thai, Spanish and math.

Poetry slam

Reykjavik City Library’s Poetry Slam will be held for the second time in February 2009. The competition will take place in the main library in Grófarhús on Reykjavík City’s Museum Night on Friday, February 13th. The slam is for all young people and the theme this time will be CHILL. What is Poetry Slam? It’s a performance of an original poem or poems, where the performance is of no less importance than the poem itself. Thus, a traditional reading does not count. You can use music, visual art, dance or other theatrical performance when delivering the text, and both individuals and small groups can take part. The winners (seat 1 – 3) will receive a prize, and their act will be broadcast on Rás 2 radio. The slam will also be recorded on video and the first three acts will be published on www.bokmenntir.is and on YouTube.
Those who want to take part have to register at www.borgarbokasafn.is or in any branch of Reykjavík City Library. The deadline for registration is December 15, 2008.

December Marketplace in Gerðuberg

Saturday December 13th from 13-16 will be a vibrant day in Gerðuberg; a marketplace where the people of Breiðholt can sell all sorts of winter goods, e.g. handicraft, cookies, toys, christmas ornaments, christmas candy or whatever comes to mind!

The atmosphere will remind you of christmas with christmas music, christmas refreshments and a book recital for children and adults in several languages. Furthermore we will be introducing an international book exchange programme and encourage everyone to bring books and magazines in different languages and to take a book in return!

The December Marketplace is a collaboration between Gerðuberg, the Intercultural Centre in Breiðholt and Gerðuberg Public Library.
