Supreme Court Confirms Attempted Murder Verdict

The Supreme Court of Iceland confirmed the sentencing of Thorvardur Davíd Ólafsson to 14-years imprisonment last week for the attempted murder of his father. Ólafsson was found guilty of having attacked his father in his home in November 2010, inflicting serious injuries.
Ólafsson stated that among the reasons for him attacking his father, Ólafur Thórdarson, a well-known musician, was the account of a girl he knew who claimed that his father had abused her sexually. The story later turned out to be a lie, Fréttabladid reports.

The attack was brutal. Ólafsson punched his father in the face with brass knuckles, kicked him in the head, and stepped on it on the ground and didn’t stop until he slipped on a pool of blood. The assailant confessed to this before the District Court.

The victim has been in a near unconscious state in hospital since, cannot express himself nor perceive his environment in a cognitive manner, the verdict states.

No improvement of his condition has occurred in the past ten months and it is therefore considered likely to be permanent.
