Swine Flu Resurfaces in Iceland

A new case of the swine flu A(H1N1) virus was diagnosed yesterday in Iceland in a young man who had recently returned from a trip to England. An older man was diagnosed with the conventional influenza this week.



Chief Epidemiologist at the Directorate of Health Haraldur Briem told ruv.is that the young man had not been seriously ill.

Briem said the swine flu case and the case of the conventional influenza indicate that the flu has announced its arrival to Iceland.

The swine flu has caused trouble in England lately where 17 people have died as a consequence of infection, among them young and previously healthy individuals.

Approximately half the Icelandic nation was given a vaccination for the swine flu last year and therefore an epidemic is considered unlikely. However, Briem encourages everyone 65 and older to get vaccinated.
