Young Men Attacked and Robbed in Their Home

Fannar Bogason, a young man renting an apartment in an apartment complex in Selfoss with his roommate, was attacked and robbed by three peers on Saturday night. Bogason, his roommate and two of their friends were in the apartment when the incident occurred.

“The attackers ordered us to put our mobiles down. Two of my friends didn’t obey and were punched hard in the face. We couldn’t do anything without our phones and no one inside the building noticed anything,” Bogason described to Morgunbladid.

He said the three attackers had been very threatening. “They walked straight in and at first we thought it was some kind of joke. But then they suddenly drew knives and we realized how serious the situation was.”

“We started shaking and listened to the guys threaten to take us to the countryside and kill us,” Bogason continued.

He believes the perpetrators were inside the apartment for approximately 40 minutes. They left with computers, computer equipment, clothing and other objects. On their way out they dropped a cell phone so Bogason and his friends could report the incident.

Bogason recognized one of the thieves as an old friend from school with whom he hadn’t been in contact until recently. “This old schoolmate of mine came here a few days ago, was soft-spoken and talked about how nice my apartment was.”

“Now I realize that he was checking out whether the place was suitable for a break-in, which he didn’t dare commit without being under the influence of drugs, though, and apparently the same goes for his partners,” Bogason concluded.

The police caught the perpetrators the same evening, two in Selfoss and the third by the police’s roadblock by Raudavatn lake outside Reykjavík—he had hitched a ride with a woman driving to the capital.

The police have demanded a four-week custody over the men.
