Third Annual No Diet Day Held in Iceland

Organizer of the third annual International No Diet Day (INDD) in Iceland, Sigrún Daníelsdóttir, said she hopes Icelanders will honor its message today. The INDD is a global campaign against dieting, eating disorders and weight discrimination.

“We want to promote the notion that we should care for our health because of our health,” Daníelsdóttir told 24 Stundir. “We also need to have a healthy attitude and recognize complexity and that not everyone can be skinny.”

Daníelsdóttir said it is important to raise awareness of the fact that we all have different shapes. “The urge to diet has lasted for more than 100 years but still it has obviously not prevented obesity. It is even possible that the diet propaganda has added to the obesity problem.”

“We know that when people are constantly dieting most of them regain the weight they lost and many end up weighing more than they did before the diet,” Daníelsdóttir explained.

The INDD was first held in the UK on May 6 in 1992.
