The Quiet Storm Participates in Russian Film Festival
Vedramót (2007), or The Quiet Storm in English, by Icelandic director Gudný Halldórsdóttir, is among ten films chosen to compete for the main awards at the Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF), which will take place between June 19 and 28.
MIFF is defined as an “A-list” film festival by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF), which means that it is one of the most respected film festivals in the world, Morgunbladid reports.
Halldórsdóttir said she believes this is the first Icelandic movie to compete at MIFF. “It is a huge festival. Cinema is very popular in [Russia] and there will be a lot of spectators.”
A-list festivals are also attended by movie distributors, so participating in MIFF is a great promotion opportunity for The Quiet Storm.
The movie features Icelandic hippies who establish a treatment home for teenagers in the countryside with nothing but good intentions, but discover that things are not as easy as they seem.
“It is a sensitive subject,” Halldórsdóttir said. “Some people can’t watch the movie because they feel the subject is too personal.”
