The courses are open to everybody and will take place both in the evening and during the day.

Icelandic for Teenagers

Our ongoing Icelandic courses for teenagers have been very popular. A great chance for teenagers to meet friends, learn Icelandic, increase self confidence and boost self image. Ideal for teenagers aged 15-20 yrs. For information, contact Halldóra: halldora@ahus.is or tel. 530 9309.

Do you want to work with asylum seekers?

Icelandic Red Cross Hafnarfjörður branch is looking for volunteers to participate in a visitation service and open house for asylum seekers. We are looking for people with good language skills and they must speak fluently minimum one language (Scandinavian languages not included) and be 23 years or older.

The volunteers in visiting services visit asylum seekers in groups (3-4 volunteers per group) once per month. Volunteers aim to provide company, assistance and comfort and help minimize social isolation of asylum seekers while they wait for ruling of the immigration.

Volunteers in open house project organize and participate in a monthly open house for asylum seekers. The aim is to offer wide range of events where everyone can find something they would like to participate in.

Applicants will be chosen for these projects after an interview. The Red Cross is responsible for training and supporting the volunteers. If you are interested please e-mail your information to: ashildur@redcross.is

May 16th is Intercultural Day in Reykjavík

Do you want to join us?

At 13:00 a multicultural parade for peace will take off from Hlemmur.

From 14:00-17:00 The Intercultural Center and The City of Reykjavik will celebrate multicultural diversity at the town hall and in the theater Iðnó. There will be singing, dancing, costumes and more interesting happenings from all over the world.
