Reykjavik both open and closed over Christmas: best to check!

Every year, the kind folks at Visit Reykjavik compile an amazingly useful list of key opening times over Christmas and New Year to aid tourists and locals in equal measure in enjoying the city over the holiday.

IceNews has also been asked to distribute the holiday opening hours of the National Culture House. The Culture House is a beautiful stone building on Hverfisgata in central Reykjavik with a programme of exciting events, as well as resident exhibitions.

The Culture House is home to a great collection of important medieval manuscripts, including original copies of eddas and sagas. The house is also home to a fascinating multimedia exhibit about the creation of Surtsey – one of the world’s youngest islands.

The culture House will be open as follows:

24.12.08: exhibitions and shop open 09.00-12.00. The tearoom will be closed.

25.12.08 (Christmas Day): closed.

26.12.08 (Boxing Day) to 30.12.08: exhibitions and shop open 11.00-17.00. The tearoom will be closed.

31.12.08 (New Year’s Eve): exhibitions and shop open 09.00-12.00. The tearoom will be closed.

01.01.09 (New Year’s Day): exhibitions and shop open 14.00-16.00. The tearoom will be closed.

Usual opening hours for the Culture House exhibitions and shop are 11.00-17.00 every day, with the tearoom open the same hours on weekdays. Entrance is ISK 300 (ISK 200 concession).
