Iceland’s President Gets Royal Visit from Denmark
Iceland’s President Gets Royal Visit from Denmark
Frederik, Crown Price of Denmark, and his wife, Crown Princess Mary, were the honorary guests at a 70-person dinner party at Bessastadir, the residence of Iceland’s President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson and his wife Dorrit Moussaieff, last night.
The menu consisted of cod, lamb and fruit salad with ice cream. Other guests who attended the dinner party were Iceland’s Foreign Minister Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir and Speaker of Parliament Sturla Bödvarsson, Morgunbladid reports.
Today the royal Danish couple will go horseback riding in Mosfellsbaer outside Reykjavík and later have luncheon with Prime Minister Geir H. Haarde and his wife Inga Jóna Thórdardóttir.
Afterwards the prince and princess will go to the Geysir hot spring area and walk up to the so-called “Royal Stones” that are engraved with the monograms of three Danish kings, Christian IX, Frederik VIII and Christian X to commemorate their visits in 1874, 1907 and 1921.
The inscriptions on the stones were recently renewed because of Frederik and Mary’s visit.
Tomorrow the royal couple will travel to Stykkishólmur on Snaefellsnes peninsula and, among other things, visit the Library of Water.
