Open house

This week in Open house we'll have a Christmas party/dinner.

We encourage everybody to bring a typical Christmas (or not Christmas, but something) dish from their country (or not from their country!) As well, for everybody from the Open house to get a gift this Christmas, everyone is asked to bring a gift (which must cost below 1000 kronas). We´ll distribute them during the evening. See you all there on friday at 20.00(or later).

Lithuanian-Icelandic Association’s Christmas ball.

The board of the association wishes everyone, Icelanders and Lithuanians a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year. The association would like to invite all our members and their children, and all Lithuanians living in Iceland to a Christmas Ball. The ball will be held on 27 December, in the Intercultural Centre on Laugavegur 37 from 15:30-17:00. Parents and their children are welcome to the Christmas fun. Please, if you are going to attend let us know at informacija.visiems@yahoo.com or by calling 866 8858. The entry fee for each child is 500 ISK. We look forward to seeing you all!

Theater sport

Group of people did meet in Intercultural Center and started an Improvisational theater group (theater sport). Improvisational theater differs a little bit from classical theater: You play on stage with several teams, there's a lot of interaction with the audience. If you ever have tried, you'll know: it's really fun, relaxes you and creates a good mood. Not the worst things when being in Iceland in winter! Audio guides at the Settlement Exhibition Reykjavík 871±2, Aðalstræti 16

At The Settlement Exhibition in Aðalstræti audio guides about the exhibition are now available in English, French,German, Norwegian, Polish, Spanish as well as Icelandic. Guests can download the guides into their own I-pods from the website www.hljodvisar.is before visiting the exhibition. A small number of I-pods can also be borrowed at the exhibition. Groups of students of Icelandic for foreigners are invited to visit the exhibition and have a guided tour free of charge. A family program: Puppet show, book presentation and togetherness by the Christmas tree. December 21st 2008

The National Center for Cultural Heritage, Hverfisgata 15, welcomes the whole family on the last Sunday of Advent, to a diverse and cozy entertainment. The program is free of charge and starts at 14:00 with a puppet show. It is the Sögusvuntan Christmas exhibition; Jesúbarnið (the Christ child), based on a Russian Christmas Carol by Leo Tolstoy. This is a warm, feel good story in a true Christmas spirit the performance includes harp playing and a puppet show. Hallveig Thorlacius is the puppeteer and tells the story and Marion Herrera plays the harp. At 15.00, Jón Baldur Hlíðberg, a drawing artist, introduces the book Íslenskar kynjaskepnur (Icelandic fable creatures). His illustrations from the book are exhibited in the reception area and the restaurant of the Center and the introduction may be regarded as the artists’ guidance through the drawings at the exhibition. Sigurður Ægisson wrote the book text. The presentation is suitable for the whole family. At 16.00 there wil l be a moment of togetherness by the Christmas tree in cooperation with the Intercultural Center. We’re expecting good company, to sing for us and perhaps we will all be singing together.

The Managing Director of The Intercultural Center

Einar Skúlason, managing director of The Intercultural Center has resigned his position as of January 1st. The position will be advertised in January and we encourage all those who are interested to watch for the ad in the newspapers and on www.ahus.is. The temporary managing director will be Margrét Steinarsdóttir. Margrét, the center's lawyer since 2004 has acted in the capacity of stand-in managing director previously.
